The emotional experience of work is often overlooked in today’s professional settings. In an effort to better understand the emotional experiences of leaders and employees, as well as how emotional experiences impact organizational performance, it is important for talent development professionals to deepen their understanding of what emotional intelligence is and how it works.

About Richard A. Mendelson

Dr. Richard A. Mendelson is a Professor in the Graduate Psychology Department at Keiser University. He is a Member of the APA, SIOP, and CREIO (Consortium for Research on Emotional Intelligence in Organizations). His research focuses on emotional intelligence applied to work and educational settings, blending emotional intelligence with artificial intelligence, and he also dabbles in the manner in which emotional intelligence impacts surgical outcomes for chronic

pain patients. He has published articles about emotional intelligence in peer-reviewed journals, books, and is currently editing a book about emotional intelligence in higher education for Jossey-Bass (scheduled for release, Fall 2019). He has also contributed to popular culture periodicals including Forbes and NewYorker Digital Magazine.
