With only a third of U.S. employees feeling engaged at work costing an estimated $500 billion a year (according to a recent Gallup study), many companies are scrambling to develop strategies for engaging a diverse workforce. These organizations should reexamine how their C-suite executives and managers at various levels are communicating to employees, especially in writing—as face-to-face meetings increasingly give way to emails, instant messaging and other computer-mediated communication.
